This time of year I find we go in to a family or friend oriented mode and tend to put work on the back burner for a few weeks. This is great! Absolutely perfect and necessary even! The challenge is, are you totally letting your foot off the gas pedal of your business?
We all get a little quieter during this time.
Myself included. But the one thing that people don’t see are the notes I am making as ideas come to my head, or the goals I’m thinking about and planning to put in to action. For me, after being my own boss for over 9 years, I find that I’m better if I use this quiet time not only to spend with loved ones, but to create new plans for myself .
What about goals?
It’s the time of year I can sit back and reflect on the goals I made for the current year, and then determine what I would like to have happen in the following year. For me, personal goals blend in with my business goals. Why? Because #1-I love my business that much; and #2-for many of my personal goals to happen, I MUST be accomplishing what I need to in my business.

Don’t lose traction!
Some people are just enjoying themselves as hobbyists, and that is perfectly ok!! But for anyone that wants to maintain a consistent business and not lose traction, it’s important to keep your business going even during the holidays. Sometimes when we are not swamped doing day to day tasks, it is the best time for us to be more creative and think more clearly about what we would like to see in the year ahead.
Do you go full steam in the fall, and then put your business on the back burner the last couple of months of the year? Or are you consistently posting, or contacting your VIP customers in some way? Letting them know you are thinking of them? In our line of work, people buy from people they like, right? So think about what that means to you and your business!
With todays technology and the ability to schedule posts, we really have little excuse. Set up posts for a period of time before disconnecting for a few days! This way, no one even needs to know that you are not connected!
I can’t say it enough…stay connected!
Have you ever noticed that when you go quiet for a little while, it’s hard to reengage? I can’t tell you how many people either give up and don’t reengage, or at least struggle doing it. I’ve found that the key to not letting this happen, is to stay engaged. Even if it’s just half of what you normally do. At least stay engaged. If you have already found that you feel awkward, then take that step NOW. Get yourself connected right away! Don’t let any more time pass! The more time that passes, the more difficult it becomes.
So be sure to keep your business top of mind so that your customers and team will keep theirs top of mind too! Then when things start hopping in January, you are ahead of the game!!
Best of luck, and cheers to 2021 being a productive and successful year! May your goals and dreams come true!
