I’m often asked how I work my business. For nearly nine years, I have consistently built my business. I don’t have just one way to work it, which is why I feel that it’s a very well rounded business. And having multiple ways to work it has also proven to help in times of change where we need to adapt quickly!
From the beginning, even when this was just a side-gig for me, I made it a point to do something every day for my business. This practice is what set me up for being consistent. Once you do something every day for an extended period of time, it becomes a habit. And for anyone that owns their own business, it is very normal to think about it constantly, and work towards making it better on a regular basis.
Any good business owner has a business plan or goals that they set for themselves. It’s important to set goals for yourself so that you know what you are shooting for and how you will go about it. It’s really difficult to have a successful business just throwing things on the wall and hoping they will stick. You want to write out a plan. Break it down in to months, weeks, and even days. You can read my blog on Goals by clicking here.
Different ways to work
Consider different ways of working your business. In my case, I’ve always made it a point to learn new things and new ways. If a new way is successful, then I can add it to my list! Maybe you love doing home parties. That is fantastic! Have you ever thought of taking a Party-on-the-Go to someone that works in an office? That is just one more way of having a party! And finding new customers and even future party hosts.
Business Networking Groups are also perfect! I get my customer base from my Networking Groups and my past customers. I’m able to get referrals because I provide excellent customer service, so people are happy to refer me to their friends and business associates. I am able to book parties from these sources as well. I have found that networking groups are wonderful because you have the opportunity to really build upon relationships when you take the time to get to know people in your group, and we all become very supportive of one another. We are also always inviting new people to join, so we are constantly meeting more people and have more opportunities to develop relationships.
Over the years I have had parties, worked at events, attended my Networking Group meetings, and provided the best customer service I can. Customer service truly is a key thing here. Remember that it is much easier to make your current customers happy than it is to constantly be having to replace customers with new ones.
Being consistent throughout is another key factor. Doing something for your business each day will get you on track for good habits. Attend meetings and trainings so that you are always learning and feel like you are a part of something. Stay connected with team members, and if you do not have any team members to connect with, then go to one of the many groups we have to get to know people and connect there.
Another important tip I have is that you definitely do NOT want to slow down once you hit a promotion to a new level. I’ve seen consultants hit a promotion and then just sort of relax. I don’t know if they think now that they’ve made it they need a break, or if they think now it’s going to just start rolling in, but either way it will kill your business. When we promote to a new level, we need to KEEP GOING. Just like any business, you don’t just sit on a chair in the corner and wait for people to walk in the door. You are always looking for ways to connect. And once you promote it is even more important to keep looking for these ways to connect!
And finally, I will tell you that I’m not at the top of the charts. But I am successful. Being at the top is great and you’ll get an award for sure, but the important thing is to be able to sustain your business. So for me I have my goals to continue creating a successful ongoing business for as many years as possible! (As long as PZ is around, I plan to be too!) If you are not on those charts, do not let it hinder you from continuing to work this business of yours.
If you are looking for a long term successful business, then find the things that will work for you and do not get sidetracked or feel like you aren’t measuring up to others. (No comparisons please!) If your business is growing, then you are on the right track! If you are happy and enjoying what you do, then you are on the right path.
Encourage your team
If you have a team, it is important to be able to lead by example and encourage them. Make sure you are not working their business for them, because that is not something they can typically replicate. It’s important to encourage and provide them with the tools they need to learn. And a little praise can go a long way to build someone up.
Set yourself up for success!
In closing, set yourself up for success by being flexible and shifting gears when necessary. Find different ways that work for you so that you create a successful, growing, long term business for yourself. Create your good habits. Be consistent. And provide excellent customer service!
Cheers to having a well rounded business! If I can offer any encouragement, don’t hesitate to reach out and private message me! If I can do this, you can too!
