Tips for a Successful Vendor Event

This upcoming weekend will be the first time doing the BlueBonnet Festival in Chappell Hill in quite some time. To say I’m excited about it is an understatement. I love events, especially when I’m familiar with many of the vendors and look forward to seeing and connecting with them all again!

Getting ready

It takes some thought.

One of the things I have learned over the years is that it’s not a good idea to wait until the last minute and just throw things together for your event. Put some thought in to it. Plan things out so that you are prepared and have a booth that is pleasing to the eye. Decide what products you want to show ahead of time. Practice grouping them together so that you can see what extra items you may want to take to make the entire thing come together!

Practicing the grouping will also help you see where you can place any literature or small signs telling about pricing or products. This way you can have your signs ready, and can add anything you may need.

Only show NEW items

Let me explain…

Have you ever been in to a store or event and noticed the box for an item was all bashed in or torn up? Maybe even looks a little “chewed” on? If the product is in new condition, but the box is a wreck, do not use the box.

Remember that when people see a box, they think of where this must have been stored before the event. No one wants something that was stored in rough or dirty conditions. Keep that in mind. I’m always surprised when I see this.

Along with that, it’s ok to have items that are from past seasons by all means! Just be sure they still look like new. If they have “aged” at all, consider not bringing them to an event. Maybe sell to someone at a big discount, but when people come through your tent, you only have a few seconds to get their attention. It’s all about first impressions!

Show prices

Not everyone agrees with me

Not everyone agrees about showing prices, but here is why I say this. When I walk in to a booth or a store and just want to peruse, I’m looking at pricing to see if I’m in an affordable place. If I don’t see prices, my mind tells me “it must be expensive then…”

The other reason prices are important to me is that many times the person is busy with a customer. If you can’t find a price, what do you do? I typically would not stand there and wait…I move on. Sale lost.

Impulse Buyers

Keep this in mind!

Keep in mind that most people are buying on impulse. Especially at events and festivals. Because of this, you want to make it quick and easy for them. Eye catching set ups, pricing they can find easily, and smiles all around.

One last thing

SMILE

SMILE. At EVERYONE. The simplest thing and many people just miss it completely. I know not everyone can stand the entirety of every event, but even if you have to sit for a minute, SMILE and say hello to people. Even strike up a conversation if you want!

It’s truly my favorite time to people watch and I love to share with people when I like their outfit, shoes, jewelry, etc! I don’t just say it unless I mean it because I want to be sure I’m coming across authentic. But I LOVE sharing compliments and seeing faces light up! And once in a while they stop and chat with me. I’ve made quite a few new friends at these events. Another of my fave things about doing them!
