If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? OR, what has been your favorite trip so far in your life? It’s always fun to dream, and then to have those dreams comes true, well, that’s just incredible.
In early August, my husband and I were fortunate enough to take a trip of a lifetime for the second time. Two years ago almost to the date, we made this trip for the first time, and here we were two years later, doing it again. We flew to the Virgin Islands where we boarded a sailboat for over a week to sail around to several different Islands. We counted them at one time and there were at least eleven Islands that we saw.
What is amazing about sailing is that you view everything from a completely different perspective. Seeing the Island from the Ocean is quite amazing. This photo gives you an idea of just a small bit of the views we gazed upon each day.
Living on the sailboat
Living on a sailboat for over a week is an incredible experience in itself. Four cabins for sleeping was just the right size. We made our meals in the Galley each day. The weather was perfect so we were able to sit where we found a comfy spot, whether in the sun or shade! Whatever our preference. (Anyone that knows me knows I was seeking out the sunny spots on the boat, and I will just say there were plenty of perfect spots to sit!) Here is a shot of the Galley and how spacious it was for us! SO easy to live here for awhile.
Some days we sailed through the day, then tied up to a Mooring Ball for the evening. Some of those evenings we would take the dingy in to the Island we were closest to and have dinner. Or maybe find a fun bar and spend a few hours! We were never at a loss for what to do.
On to the Islands
Other days, we actually ventured on to an Island for the day! Places like Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke’s White Bay were SO much fun. You have to try their famous Pain Killer if you get there for a visit. Or spend the day in the Baths on Virgin Gorda where you can climb around the giant boulders where there are exotic pools of beautiful water and white sandy beaches. Make your way to the top for a wonderful lunch and some shopping, or take a dip in the pool to cool off!
Each day was an incredible adventure. Some days were a bit lazier than others, but all were perfect. Two years ago we stayed nearly two weeks. This trip was eight days, and I could have easily stayed another week. I am still finding myself glancing through my photos and wishing I were back there. There is a peace of mind and calmness being in that kind of beauty and tranquility for so many days. Something I want to hold on to. Definitely not the hustle and bustle of every day life. Even our new friend Crackers enjoyed an afternoon on the water with us.
Where would you go?
So back to my original question, if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? And what would you do there? I’d love to hear from you! In the meantime, continue dreaming!
